Jewish Center of Northwest Jersey

President's Message September 2013

Although summer is usually downtime for the Jewish Center, this summer was the exception. Summer began with our June Shabbat celebration, honoring our beloved Rabbi Lewis, and proceeded through two well attended meet-and-greets at the homes of the Berkowitzís and Hersonís/Fleckles, along with the potluck dinners and services in July and August led by our new and engaging leader, Rabbi Zamore.

The Ritual Committee, chaired by Iris Hirsch, together with Rabbi Zamore, went into action in preparing for the unusually early New Year. The Education Committee, chaired by Gerri Klein and Juniper Leifer, in concert with Rabbi Zamore, laid the groundwork for the upcoming school year. An active summer indeed, with Rabbi Zamore fitting right in to our congregationís tireless work ethic. The New Year is off to a good start with the successful passing of the torch.

Not surprising, more than half of the congregation organized, participated, and attended the summer activities to make the Rabbi and leadership transition smooth and successful. This was an amazing sight to see and a testament to the fortitude of our community. We should be excited for the upcoming New Year and the changes it will bring.

However, we should remain mindful that a successful succession cannot be accomplished without the active participation of you, the congregation. This is your Jewish Center. Let us make the New Year by each of us performing a mitzvah for the congregation by participating in one of our many committees, events, and programs. I encourage you to take an active role in our congregation. We need your participation for it sculpts the future of our congregation.

May the New Year bring us all good health, peace and, happiness and may it continue to strengthen the bond of our community.
